IBM patent and ebXML
Unfortunately uncertainties regarding the IBM IPR statement relating to OASIS CPPA prevents us from releasing full open source support for OASIS CPP and CPA documents.
It is unclear what IBM indent to do with its patent and it has been brough to our attention that only the use of OASIS CPPA is covered by current IBM IPR statement and RAND conditions. This indicates that any extensions of OASIS CPPA may not covered by RAND and other licensing conditions may apply. It should also be noted that the current RAND conditions apply only to current version of CPPA which means that future versions may involved other licencing conditions.
So it is recommeded that any implementor or researcher should be in contact with relevant legal department, preferabley with US patent law experiance, in order to be absolutly sure of all consequences.
If and when these uncertainties have been resolved we may release support for the affected specification documents after a few weeks grace period.
